Candidates for Invisalign

Invisalign is an excellent alternative to traditional metal braces. Commonly thought of as “clear braces,” Invisalign is much preferred by many patients for cosmetic reasons. It can correct many cosmetic and other, more severe, orthodontic problems; however, there are also cases in which Invisalign may not be the best solution. Drs. Davidowitz will work with you during your consultation to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.

Yelp Profile - Luxury Dentistry NYC

"My smile is very important to me. I never really had huge issues with my teeth but I did have some spacing that I was not happy with. Deciding to get invisalign was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The hard part was finding a facility that would tend to my needs and make me feel at home. I researched for quite some time before actually picking a place, but I finally ended up choosing Luxury Dentistry.”

Invisalign comes with many great benefits over the traditional metal braces. It is much more discreet, so adults and teenagers who are concerned with their appearance feel less self-conscious about having corrective cosmetic dentistry. Further, because the aligners are removed before mealtimes, there are no dietary restrictions such as with traditional braces.

All Invisalign patients must meet the following criteria:

  • Commit to the treatment. For the best results, aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours a day, so patients who cannot follow treatment procedures will not benefit from Invisalign.
  • Have healthy teeth and gums. Patients with periodontal disease or untreated gums are not ideal candidates for Invisalign.
  • Have good oral hygiene habits. Patients must thoroughly brush and floss after eating and before putting the aligners back on.
  • Is a non-smoker. Smokers are not eligible for Invisalign, as it interferes with the plastic aligners.

Invisalign is most commonly used to treat misaligned teeth. Spaced teeth with gaps between the teeth, and overcrowded teeth are both conditions usually successfully treated by Invisalign. Other conditions it may or may not be able to treat, depending on other circumstances, include overbite, underbite, and crossbite. In some of these cases, Invisalign may not be able to provide the results you desire, and traditional metal braces may be the best option. However, the Invisalign technology is constantly improving, and is now able to treat many more cases than it was before. If you had previously been told you were not eligible for Invisalign, now may be the time to be reevaluated for treatment.

These guidelines are meant only to give you a rough idea of what constitutes an ideal Invisalign patient, and are by no means definite. Each case is unique, and many other factors play into eligibility. Only qualified, fully trained Invisalign dentists can make the final say as to whether or not Invisalign is the right option for you, and Drs. Davidowitz are fully Invisalign trained and qualified. Our experienced dental team will be more than happy to review your case in our Manhattan, New York office. Please contact our NYC location to book a consultation now, and take the first step to a more beautiful and radiant smile!
